I usually require a size large but I saw a convincing review that suggested buying one size larger in order to make room for layers. I did that and it turned out to be outstanding advise. As for performance, it was exactly what I needed to cut the wind on the mountain. I would have been miserable without this jacket. It was worth every penny that it cost.
