Ever lighter
Special K here. I want thank Hyperlite for making it just a little easier on my old bones. Traveling along the AT in the Blue Ridge this month I tweaked my load just a bit more. Trekking is personal for me. While I set out with my daughter, son in law, and Captain Crunch I always end up hiking alone. I leave camp before sunrise and hike so slow I get passed by everyone in my party typically before lunch. Hiking comfortably and as light as possible is key to my getting the most out of the trips. For this three night four day section my pack weight including food, stove and gas was 13 pounds. Aside from my bag, mattress, and a puffy I used a Hyperlite roll top and food bag. Phone went into Hyperlite phone pouch and 750 mil water into their bottle holder. This was the most comfortable load out I ever carried. This was the most “modular” set up I ever used. Simple is good. In fact simple is easier and safer. I know safer now after over shooting our first camp site by five or so miles day one and having to set up a stealth camp, my first, at close to midnight in thirty degree temps with a less than balmy wind. Simple is good. Simple and light was elegant. Ps. Tay Tay, Tim, and Captain Crunch I wasn’t lost I was just further. PSs. Next time I’ll bring the right charging cord ( I hope).
