Just like Grace and Jade, HAZE is such a perfect name for this tin. 🖤
Kind of unexpected because I always thought black tins were supposed to mean bold, rich, and deep. But what I forgot was to pay more attention to the name instead. 🫣
I’m the type who doesn’t read too much into a matcha’s profile when reviewing because I want to be truthful with what I actually taste and experience. So it took me a while to post this review.
I was even worried I was drinking it without really getting its profile. Hahaha! But then again, Haze really is mysterious and takes a little time to reveal itself. 🌫️
I tried it as an usucha, oat milk latte, and full cream milk latte aka Meiji. 😬
Dry aroma: Green, nutty, slightly sweet and creamy.
When whisked: It reminded me of boiled almonds.
Usucha: My first sip was bitter, and I don’t handle bitterness very well. 😂 I added 8g agave and suddenly it became beautifully floral and sweet, with an edamame like note. The floral character lingered the most while the bitterness completely subsided.
Oat milk latte: The notes became more tamed and harder to pinpoint, but after sitting for a while and diluting with ice, the floral and edamame like sweetness became more noticeable.
Full cream latte: More creamy and almond forward. Again, the longer it sat, the more its character showed.
This matchaaaa needs attention. 😂 It needs a little time to cure and bloom into something more flavorful.
For me, Haze is best as an usucha. It’s so delicate and beautiful that milk can easily mask what makes it interesting. If you prefer it as a latte, I’d suggest using less milk than your usual ratio.
Next time, I’m trying it with sparkling water or coconut water. 👀🍵
