I've collected all types of razors, including safety and one-edge razors and straight razors, going all the way back in time to more than 120 years ago. Well GEM razors are a favorite of mine, so when Shane announced the Batch 004 would be one piece straight razor I simply had to get one! That it would be like the early GEM razors, not having a front on it all all. I've shaved ten times with the wonderful GEM razor. And I was wondering about the handle, I needn't have worried about it. It was comfortable no matter which way you held it. I discovered with the reverse path of shaving my throat that the center finger would hold the largest hole in the handle, making it easy to move. And I feared it would too aggressive, but it is as comfortable as any regular safety razor would be, I needn't had worried, Shane said twice in the video that he was making it a neutral shaving razor. I hope he takes it to production, with a few changes it could be make for less money, made with aluminum instead of stainless steel and more conventional handle. I give it a big thumbs up, it is going to be added to my top razors (I have more than 400 razors of all types) in shaving everyday.

If you get a chance to purchase this razor you should. I could tell you how amazing the razor is but this is one of those razors you should try yourself. The first shave is good, the second is better and after five shaves or so it keeps getting better. There is an adjustment time that will probably take place, at least it fid for me. Without a top cap and the angle it shaves similar to a shavette with training wheels. It takes the lather off your face and you may want to minimize buffing but oh it is a delightful shave. I am really glad i got my hands on this razor and can’t wait to see what blackland comes out with next.

Very interesting design, I am a huge fan of all of the workshop projects - I love non-traditional designs. This razor feels amazing in the hand, solid, chunky, just a beast. Holds the GEM blade tightly with no bade movement/chatter. Has a little more drag than I would prefer as there is no top cap - just the blade itself, but that is a small price to pay for the interesting and non-traditional design
