Kite Pants PDF Sewing Pattern

Love the pattern. Easy to print, assemble and sew! I would consider myself an advanced beginner sewer and this was a fun project.

Fun to make

Although I have been quilting for 25+ years, I am now starting to sew clothes. I picked this pattern for 2 reasons. 1 - it just looked fun and 2 - I found a YouTube video. Definitely easy for a beginner sewist. I am in the middle of making my second pair. Next up will be the recess pants. It would be awesome if there was a YouTube video for it. (hint, hint).

Waistband instructions are NOT beginner, everything else is great though

The shape of the pant is true to the pictures, and withstood me shortening them quite a bit for my 5 foot frame. (In my pictures they're not yet hemmed.) However, the waistband instructions are not at all beginner-friendly. There is no room for error when encasing the waistband and I had a very difficult time with it. This could be in part because I used a slightly thicker fabric (midweight denim). However, I think this could be improved if the pattern had wider waistband pieces and if there was a specified seam allowance rather than the vague instruction of "edge stitch the waistband using a minimal seam allowance." (I've included a picture of the fraying caused by the numerous attempts made to properly encase the waistband.)
