The Best Dash Cam I Hate Looking At

The Good: I’ve been putting this Vantrue through its paces, and from a technical standpoint, it is a powerhouse. The operation is seamless, the interface is intuitive, and the feature set—from the resolution to the recording reliability—is exactly what you want in a high-end dash cam. It does its job perfectly the moment you start the car. The Not-So-Good: The biggest hurdle with this unit is the physical design. It has an incredibly odd shape that feels counter-intuitive for a device meant to be "hidden" on a windshield. Because of its specific form factor, my placement options were extremely limited. Instead of tucking neatly behind the rearview mirror, the bulkiness of the unit forced me to mount it lower or further to the side than I’d like, which can be distracting and looks a bit cluttered from the driver's seat. It’s a shame because the internal tech is easily five-star quality, but the exterior design feels like an afterthought. Final Verdict: If you have a large windshield or don't mind a visible device, the performance is hard to beat. However, if you're looking for a sleek, "set it and forget it" stealth installation, the awkward shape might be a dealbreaker.
