Don't fall for an imitation like I did. The imitations have two major faults: (1) the magnet is too small and too far away from the hook's eyes to hold them. (2) The slots for the hooks eyes are too small to hold the eye for the line to slide through. The Rooster performs just as the instructional video shows. Quality usually does.

Learning curve

It took a while to learn how to use the tool consistently. I’m glad I practiced at home before going to the stream. It seems to work a bit easier with harder tipper material, rather than really soft mono. If there were a way to include an eye cleaner, that would be a nice additional feature. It definitely will speed up my time fishing.

Do Your Research and buy only the authentic Talwego

I ordered a fly roost off Amazon from a company that was using your pictures and advertising. They looked the same from a distance but intricate details such as hook slot size and location as well as magnet power rendered the knock-off totally unusable. A worthless chunk of plastic! After more research I contacted Talwego and purchased their patented fly roost. The authentic Talwego works as described. I found it is best when using limp lines to hold the natural curve of the line downward. I am very satisfied with the product.
