As senior missionaries that served in Detroit a year ago, my wife and I learned that young elder missionaries love to compete with one another to see who can come up with the most colorful socks/skinny ties. That inspired me to get involved. So, I now purchase BOM socks to use as gifts to grandsons starting their missions, but, also as gifts for young men going on missions from our home ward. I package BOM socks with colorful skinny ties I purchase on Amazon and give them away when they make their mission call announcements. I also plan to send additional such packages out as Christmas gifts later this year to young elders in the mission field.
