I really like the tool kit approach to these rules! i think a few examples would make the rules clearer, however. That being said I can appreciate page count blowing up with too much of these.

Wow, a lot of content in 100 pages! You could run everything from a low-magic dark ages TTRPG, to a full on Medieval World War miniatures game with this. I could even see playing a Barsoom game on Mars with this using the Warband rules. An absolute treasure trove for Solo play. The rules for spells are interesting and extremely flexible. The setting and map of a fantastical middle ages is quite unique. The inclusion of Vices and Virtues and Special Interests gives you a lot of flexibility in making a character, and ensures no two are exactly the same. A real labor of love from Mr. Tapp that deserves your attention!

Barrowmail is an exceptional combination of pre-0E fantasy role playing and wargame. For any referee who is looking to run a low magic, iron age focused game this would be an amazing resource regardless of whether you use the systems inside, acting as both a setting book and game. With multiple combat systems, an incredible and unique magic system, and an awesome setting to back it up Barrowmail is definitely something worth picking up for anyone and everyone. The tables within the book are all of great use as well, random hex generation, an oracle for solo play, and encounter lists being some of the highlights. All in all, Barrowmail is a game with a huge personality packed into a tight 100 or so pages, and is so far my top release of 2026 in the role playing sphere.
