Commodity Discovery Kit was a really interesting experience for me because there were definitely a few surprises! Paper was my clear favorite. 🤍 It had that clean, soft, airy, skin-like quality that I’m always drawn to. Minimal but comforting, and easily the one I could see myself reaching for the most. Juice just wasn’t for me. It didn’t really connect with my personal taste, and Gold was another one I didn’t care for. Since I’m not a big fan of overly sweet, gourmand, or vanilla-heavy fragrances, those just didn’t feel like me. Ice was interesting because it genuinely seemed to create a cool feeling—which I thought was really unique. ❄️ Ultimately, though, Ice wasn’t for me either. It was definitely light and refreshing, but not something I personally connected with enough to wear. Moss was probably the most interesting to me. It smelled very green, damp, and woody—almost like being in a forest after rain. 🌿 I didn’t hate it at all, and I can appreciate how different it was, but I’m not sure I would reach for it every day. Overall, I’m really glad I tried the Discovery Kit. Paper was the standout and the one that felt most “me,” while the others helped me better understand what I’m drawn to—and what I’m not. That’s exactly what a discovery set is supposed to do!

Fragrances were great and testing was super fun

I got this kit and happened to take it on a trip with extended family. We had a lot of fun spraying different fragrances on our wrists and inner elbows and randomly getting each other to rank order the 4 different scents we were wearing. It was also cool to observe how the scents landed and developed differently on different people. I'm leading with that partly because I was surprised at how much the process of testing contributed to my enjoyment of the product. 100% recommend considering that if you get this kit. Now, about the actual product: I was surprised at how dramatically different most of the scents were across the personal-expressive-bold continuum—this is not just 6 scents with slight tweaks. There were only 1-2 where the personal and expressive versions seemed very adjacent (but still not identical). In addition, the kit came with samples of Ice(d) expressive, Velvet expressive, and Milk Orchid. So that's 21 fragrances. And the amount of each that you get is small but mighty—each sample was tested multiple times by different people and the only one we ran out of was the Gold expressive. Although there were a couple that didn't sit well on my skin (as I'd expect of any sampler), I loved way too many of them for my budget 😅 The ones that are still on my mind are Book+, Gold, Milk+, Milk, and Milk Orchid. And maybe Paper. And I haven't even tried the archive editions! I also really appreciated having the booklet and the paper strips included. I have 2 pieces of feedback more for the Commodity team but maybe relevant to customers too: 1. the descriptions in the booklet weren't always aligned with the ones on the website and sometimes that was confusing. I appreciate the "first x, then y, then z" approach on the website. And I get that sometimes it makes sense to focus on actual ingredients vs. experience vs. overall vibe. But when they're different, how do you know which is which? I ended up writing the experience sequence info from the website in the booklet. 2. the discount code can only be applied to a full-sized bottle. As someone on a budget who's not ready to monogamously commit to one of these fragrances, I would have super appreciated being able to get a discount for the duo or trio sets, even if it wasn't as deep a discount.
