共內戰後期，不少華人流亡，蟄居香港，其中包括昔日的軍政要員，尋求美國資助，在國共兩黨以外，組織「第三勢力」政治及軍事組織，計劃反攻大陸。另外，一些知識份子獲得美援後，成立出版社，發行書籍、雜誌、報刊，出版物琳琅滿目，傳播兩岸皆不能說的話，成就香港在二戰後文化事業的高峰。筆者研究「第三勢力」長達十餘年，藉此回顧香港一段國共兩大政黨以外的往事，剖析「第三勢力」的發展趨勢，補述相關人士未竟之志，冀望現時第三勢力鑑古推今。
