Fantastic value for monitor arm and service
This is the second monitor arm in the house, so I will compare it.
The other is an amazon basic single monitor arm, the old one made by ergotron. It's a debadged Ergotron LX, which is used for holding a 43" TV (9kg, so just within specified capacity limit). The Yaasa arm is used for a 27" monitor.
Pros (compared to Ergotron):
- Yaasa looks and feels little more sturdy than the ergotron
- The Yaasa looks so much better with its all black look
- The Yaasa is really strong, needed a loads of adjustment to not shoot the monitor up to the moon. After it, It holds the height right, and it is easy to adjust up and down, stays where I leave it
- Cabel management is also better, especially like the L "screw" holder at the base.
- Using with C clamp, it is very stable. Monitor is held up really high (laptop monitor under it), but it only wooble as much as the desk itself when it is pushed. Comporable with the Ergotron in this regard too.
- The base bar of the Yaasa is much longer, meaning you can place monitor max higher then with the Ergotron. With the yaasa, you are able to stack 2 27" monitors on top of each other comfortable. With the ergotron, you just can't.
Relative Cons:
- Tilt adjustment is noticeably worse. The ergotron is adjustable just like height, find the perfect hydraulic strength then you just tilt it into desired position. The Yaasa one is like you set the tilt, then secure it and it stays there. The annoying thing is that it has some leeway, meaning you hold the desired angle, secure, take your hands from the monitor, and it "sink" a few degrees. Therefore when securing, you need to overshoot the angle, to have it sink into the perfect angle. It is consistent, and it is a hard stop. No more sink in as time goes. It is part of the locking mechanism. This is the set it once then forget about it.
- side rotational adjustment is a little bit worse than the ergotron. They are in the same league, but little bit more "sink". Nothing major, would rotate it frequently if it was needed/desired.
- Maybe the possible reach is a little bit shorter than the ergotron by a few cm.
- I don't know after 5-10 years, how will the hydraulic strenght of these 2 arms hold up. Currently nothing can make me assume that either one will last longer
Conclusion:
- Yaasa monitor arm is a better debadged ergotron lx, around the same price I could bought it 2 years ago (not available anymore, new amazon basic are made by another company). It looks better, cables handled better, gives bigger positional flexibility. Only the tilt is set it once, then forget it.
I WILL buy again when need for another arm arises. Amazing value with fast, well tracked delivery for free.
