Lambda Top Solid Copper

Excellent quality and beautiful look

I now have 4 Lambdas and they all remain among my few preferred tops: 1) the brass version with ruby tip was one of my first precision tops (almost 2 years ago); 2) the brass version with stainless steel tip (bought on Massdrop, with the idea of comparing ruby and steel balls); 3) the copper version with ruby tip; 4) the brass/aluminium version with ruby tip (bought on Massdrop) LOOK: the very good satin polish and the rounded shape makes these tops look very soft and elegant. The hollow spindle (designed for longer spins) also has a strong impact on how the ruby versions look, as it allows light from above to illuminate the ruby. Considering the whole design, I think ruby is the best fit for any version. The small red box in which they are shipped makes them look all the more like jewels. DESIGN: the large clearance and the thin, delicately knurled spindle make all these tops very easy to spin. Due to the high Centre of Gravity, they have some hula-ing before reaching their sleep states (1 to 3 mins, depending on how far from vertical it is launched). The sleep phase is extremely stable, a proof of a very good balance. PERFORMANCE: As the Lambdas are a reference in the world of precision spinning tops, I use them for different tests. Perfectly balanced and stable spinning top.

I ordered a copper top with ruby tip and was shipped a brass one by mistake. I emailed the company and received a very quick response apologizing and saying they would pay for the return shipping and send me the copper one. Between the time I emailed them and their response, I liked it so well I couldn’t send it back. So I purchased it as well. I’m very happy with both tops and I am looking forward to purchasing different tops when they become available. I have several tops from different makers and these are at the top of my collection. When releasing the top it stabilizes quickly on a conclave mirror and doesn’t flutter. Satisfied customer. Barry Hicks

Lambda Top Solid Copper Thoughts

Only my second "adult" top. The first one was made by a different manufacturer and was made with tungsten, a higher specific gravity metal, which should have provided a longer spin time. But no, the Lambda top spun longer by a factor of at least 5 times. I am completely satisfied by the performance, quality and style of the top. Yes, are these tops a necessity, no. Life is too short. If something like this brings joy to your life, like it has to me, then so be it. I makes me smile, it intrigues me, it makes me smile. How can life get much better!
