Like one other reviewer, I’ve been trying to find a replacement for a particular matcha I can no longer access — in my case, Yamaguchi san’s Matcha 1.5 from Hoshino. It turns out that Masashi is a phenomenal replacement, I suspect aided by the fact that it also comes from Hoshino. Creamy, roasted, very nutty/toasted profile with just the right amount of umami that delights but doesn’t overpower. I found brewing it as a cooler, thicker usucha (65°, 3g, 50ml) hits the sweet spot for me. An absolutely stunning, comforting matcha!
Very much looking forward to the 2026 harvest (looks like I just missed the initial release), and hopefully having this in regular rotation.
