XL is smaller than most.

I ordered and received an XL and in all other brands that fits me. However, these were very tight and the elastic waistband was stretched to nearly the limit. I wear a size 38 pants and those are a bit loose. The material is great and the length is perfect. XL always works but next time I’d order an XXL. My wife however loves the shorts and she moved them to her side of the closet.
