I’ve turned just a few segmented bowls and buckets after recently buying a lathe and then some 80s vintage woodturning tools made in Sheffield, England. The Carter and Son Toolwork videos were instrumental in teaching me how to sharpen and use these tools, so then I thought I’d give their tools a go, especially since they’re just across the state in Seattle. The Essential Tool Set seemed to be the ideal starter set for someone that didn’t know where woodturning would take me. The quality of their tools are truly outstanding. So far, I’ve worked with the spindle gouge and parting tool and both were superior in terms of maintaining sharpness and overall handling compared with my Sheffield wood-handled set. I’ve already placed an order for three additional tools from Carter and Son Toolworks.

I had never purchased from Carter and Son so I wasn’t sure. Boy was I surprised. The quality in these tools is amazing. From the weight, balance all the way to the fine grind on them. Will definitely look into purchasing more. Thank you for the quality tools👍

Exceptional Tools

I have only just started using these tools, but they are such a huge upgrade from my previous carbide turning tools. The fit and finish are second to none, these are heirloom quality pieces, think Lie Nielson or Blue Spruce for a comparison. The tools came sharp and ready to turn. I can't wait to get more experience and time with these tools. I would also like to note how friendly and helpful the staff are. I believe I talked with the owner about the skew in this set and asked about upgrading to a larger one to help with my inexperience with the tool. Not only was this possible, but he took the time to talk this over with me. And the individual who took my order was so helpful and made sure that I was completely happy and even sent some videos to watch before my tools arrived...I mentioned these were my first proper turning tools and she wanted to provide some videos that she thought I would find helpful. I can't say enough about this company; there tools are premium and their customer service is second to none...I have already ordered another tool from them. Do yourself a favor and choose their tools, you will be more than satisfied. I am now a life long customer of Carter and Son Toolworks.
