Pre-Code Crawford Stars In This Lost Gem. Lovingly Rescued And Restored By Warner Archive

Letty Lynton is a true pre-code gem of a movie starring Joan Crawford and Robert Montgomery from 1932. Directed by Clarence Brown, the plot follows Letty, played by Crawford, a socialite who embarks on a romance with a wealthy man, only to be blackmailed by a former lover. Letty Lynton is a movie that has been out of circulation for many years. It has been unavailable commercially since 1936 as a result of a federal court ruling which deemed that the script plagiarized the play "Dishonored Lady". It was ruled that MGM failed to acquire the rights to adapt such play. As a result, the movie has been out of circulation. The U.S. copyright of the play expired in 2025. As a result, the movie is now available commercially. The good thing is that Warner Archive has rescued the movie and restored it so that it looks and sounds outstanding. The black and white cinematography has been lovingly restored and the audio quality is excellent. This is pre-code Hollywood at its best. It is also Joan Crawford at her best as well. This one is highly recommended and is a must own for all film buffs.

I've waited decades for this release. And finally LETTY in all her glory. This really does feel Like the missing link to Crawfords rise to super stardom. It's one of her best performances of her early career. With this, Grand Hotel and Rain all in 1932, I truly believe Crawford should have won her 1st Oscar in 1932. She gave the 3 best performances of the year.

Let me begin with a huge thank you to Movie Zyng, who provided a first-class delivery service from America. I was expecting a 2 week wait but came within 7 days. I was most impressed. I can highly recommend them. The disc itself came factory sealed, and the keep case was of a high quality with an excellent spindle, which was nice and tall to hold the disc securely in the case. The film itself was incredible to watch when you think it is over 90+ years old. The guys at Warner Archive have done an astonishing job at restoring this film. I am only discovering and appreciating what an overlooked actor she was. This review is for the blu-ray format.
