Great, lightweight tent… a little tricky to setup

I love this tent, super well made and quality throughout. I have now set it up about 8 times and I’m getting better at it but found I needed to buy the tent poles from Durston because by trekking poles are fixed length at 120cm and this tent x-mid 2+ really seems to set up best with 125-130cm poles. I still haven’t been able to get the floor to look perfect with the bathtub sides like I’ve seen others do in the numerous YouTube videos I’ve watched. I’m sure I’ll get to where I can pitch it perfectly but I’m definitely not there yet.

So light and easy to pitch!

Overall I'm really happy with this tent. It was my first experience with a pole pitch tent, but after some practice, found it easy to pitch. It's super light and really spacious for a two person backpacking tent. The vestibules are nice and roomy and it's tall enough inside to hang out in if it's rainy/buggy. I had it out during a surprise June snow storm and it held up well. There was some condensation on the inside of the tent due to the single wall, but overall it kept us warm and dry. My only complaint is that the tent bag is not very sturdy -- after an inaugural 9 day trip, the seams of the bag are already coming apart. The tent itself seems sturdy for how light it is. Overall, I'm incredibly happy with it -- it strikes an amazing balance of performance, features, space, and again, is incredibly light!

A Lightweight and Spacious Marvel

I use the X-Mid Pro 2+ with the groundsheet and two Durston carbon poles for mountain biking trips. Combined with other ultralight gear, I can keep my pack weight for multi-day tours down to 7 kg, allowing me to ride even moderately technical singletrails with just a 30-liter backpack and a 4-liter handlebar bag on my full-suspension mountain bike (-> picture). The tent is spacious enough to accommodate not only my sleeping pad and sleeping bag but also all of my gear, with enough room to spread everything out and, for example, dry damp clothing. When pitching the tent, it’s important to ensure that the small side panels are perfectly vertical. With a bit of practice, this is relatively easy to achieve. The stakes are lightweight yet sturdy enough to be driven into the ground with a rock. If the vestibules are closed on clear, cold nights, some condensation forms inside the tent, but thanks to the small ventilation openings, there is significantly less than on the outside of the fly. The magnetic system for securing the rolled-up tent doors works surprisingly well. In the morning, I simply leave the groundsheet clipped to the tent floor and stuff the damp tent into its stuff sack. This is easy because the sack is generously sized. Before pitching it again, the tent dries very quickly (weather permitting), and dirt brushes off easily. Overall, the tent feels highly functional, robust, and exceptionally well made. It has fully met my expectations.
