In September 1944, Operation Market Garden hung on a single road. The 101st Airborne dropped into Holland to seize the highway running north from Eindhoven and keep it open for the armored column driving toward Arnhem. The Germans cut it again and again, and the paratroopers fought running battles up and down the embankments to reopen it
