PinFix is used as a interfacing sleeve between the Latch Pins and the Lid Frame, locking the Latch in place to the Lid Frame. It also controls Latch function including a hard stop limiting rotation.

So amazing but hinges are a weak point
Five stars on the cooler itself. We did a six day rafting trip in 100°+ weather and had it as our "freezer". We would have to take things out to defrost!!! It is super handy for stupid things like grocery shopping when you can't make it home before ice cream melts. It really is amazing. Like having a gibormous yeti that you can bring on a picnic. That being said- one star off for the hinges. The two sided opening is meh. The bigger problem is that the aluminum is really soft and bends easily. We had a problem with the hinge springing and it broke. Oyster is awesome and sent new ones free. Broke one trying to fix it- so I do ask oyster to redesign the hinges. I would also like handles instead of the big handle or strap. The metal on the lock pin bends easily and I thought that I wasn't going to be able to get the strap handle off at one point.
