New faves?
I thought my Renegades would sit atop the list of favorite skis forever but we have a new contender. Just 2 days patrolling in variable spring conditions but these things rip! They don't give anything up on the hardpack but just come alive in the woods/steeps/bumps! Super nimble and responsive and forgiving. A really intuitive ride. Carve, slarve, or jump... Devs make it all easy! Stoked for the next day on them!

194's:
Coming from the 2018 Devastator in 184 up to the 2023/24 194 length. I'm a big dude, 6'2/xxl. In retrospect I should have skied the longer 194's back in 2018 but was thrown off by the reported weight back then - so was excited to see the longer length available this season. I now have 8 days on my 194's in snow ranging from firm and crusty to 15" of fresh. My takes: 1. For reference, the weight between the earlier model 184's and this year's 194's are similar despite the longer length. Stability is the same in mixed snow remains a strength despite the lower weight. vs. length. Concerned about not "crud crushing" and the end of the day? Don't be. This is still a very stable platform and rolls through variable at speed just fine. 2. Much better firm snow/ice conditions. Common sense states that the longer length would help here, and yes, that's probably part of equation. However, the shape change from prior is noticeable and better in harder and icy conditions with a longer sweet spot vs. the prior design that hooks up nicely into nice and effortless long GS turns. Prior version were a bit squirrely unless on edge, newer version is much more stable when traversing back to lifts on catwalks, ECT and translates into much better firm snow response when at speed. 3. They really come alive in any loose or new snow. Even a groomer with 1" of snow they go from a stable GS-like ski to a quicker confidence inspiring platform. The more fresh you throw at these, the quicker and more stable these become and where they really start to shine. They rip though moguls and trees better than most narrower skis I've been on. 4. Almost the perfect resort ski for a big dude. Per all the reasons above, I wouldn't think twice about the 194's if having trouble deciding to size up or not. They ski at or just short of length and nearly the perfect all mountain platform. Glad I pulled the trigger and went up!
