The cathedral snare is truly amazing, but it does require some testing to get the right sound. Compared to a standard snare, it certainly produces much less noise due to the absence of the steel wire mesh on the underside. The steel balls create a kind of dampening, deep snare sound, together with the included dampening mat that can be placed on the drum.

This thing really is as advertised. It takes the volume down without sacrificing a great snare tone. I play it with the chapel brushes, and when you hit a solid rim shot, it produces a perfectly appealing fat tone that actually maintains a strictly lower volume and cuts out the high end. And honestly, it's just plain fun. I'm getting actual joy out of playing it daily. I'm really glad I went for it. 10/10.

I’ve tried to use muffled snares with probably hundreds of dollars spent over the years with all sorts of contraptions and methods. Various sticks, hybrid brushes, nylon etc… I also used an ocean drum with dampening. Then I played on a cathedral at a local church and was blown away. I’ve used their snare at a few different intimate locations and it was perfect. I knew I had to have one. I’ve only spent a few hours with mine and it’s just as perfect. I’m planning on getting an entire kit to match. I know Parish has a church niche, but the applications go far beyond those walls.
