More than just a sling
I had bought this planning to use it for my second baby (not yet arrived) so that she could be on my chest/side while I still pay attention to my toddler, but we ended up using it for my toddler already also. It lets me put him up on my back or hip relatively easily, which is good because it seems like the bigger my baby bump gets the more "up" he wants. He napped in it on my back in the airport when we got stuck on a long layover. Also, I used the ring to attach it to those bolted-in waiting seats, held the other end, and swung him in it like a little hammock which helped him calm down when he was getting a little too frenetic due to the mental overload of multi-leg airline travel (this is how we chilled him out enough to get him ready to nap on my back). Seriously saved the day. Also used it as a makeshift window-shade for the car by attaching it to the handle above the window, plus of course it can pull duty as a blanket or changing pad. Fun for playing (kind of like those montessori silks, I guess?) also. The machine washability is key. I think you can't likely be as active with it as with baby in an onbuhimo, but it's definitely more snuggly than an onbuhimo and more flexible so this is my go-to traveling buddy from now on. Since the airport scenario it goes with us basically everywhere. Of note, even though he's not yet 2 he's nearly 35lbs and about 3ft tall, so it works on pretty large toddlers. Recently had him in it on my back watching a parade and it did give him a sleepy leg (he can't describe it but it was red and he walked funny on that leg for a few minutes, so we are presuming) so I'd watch out for that with bigger kids- that might've been a better time for the onbuhimo.
