Pietus Maximus

This is the first high end solid state dac/amp that I've owned, so bear that in mind with my review comments. I do own the WA7 Fireflies 3rd Gen, but this is not a suitable comparison for review purposes being a tube amp. I won't comment on "tube flavour" as this is highly subjective. This dac/amp combination provides incredible sound with the HD800S. If you're considering this as an upgrade, compared to entry level solid state DAC/amps (£100-£200) it is a big improvement for the HD800S. In general, the strengths of the HD800S are really showcased whilst also improving its weaker areas. One of those being bass, which is significantly improved in terms of resolution. Just temper your expectations with the HD800S as it won't provide the thump of the Meze 99 Classics for example. The only negative being that the overall width of the soundstage does seem to be reduced slightly (it may just be my old ears though), but this does not impact the experience in any meaningful way.

Best pair for HD800S. Fix everything. Number 1 for me now.
