Varia VS4 Grinder

I order a Vaira VS4 Grinder from Whole Latte Love. This unit arrived packaged very well, and without any damage. Build quality of the VS4 is excellent. It does not take up much room on my counter top and importantly my wife said it looked good. With the unit setup I begin grinding after review of the manual. It took several attempts (10+) to zero in the grind setting of the VS4 to meet the 1 (20g coffee) to 2 (40g brew water) ratio at 22-30 seconds I normally use for my espresso. The unit is quiet when grinding and there is little retention if you spray the beans with the included sprayer. The negatives: to see the grind settings I have to tilt the grinder back. Additionally, the manual indicates the grind setting for espresso to be 2 to 5, but my grind setting is currently set at 7.

Very well made grinder. Slight trouble with getting the burrs aligned. Nice help from Whole Latte Love. Works well now. Definite difference in taste versus the flat burrs. I seem to like the conical burr grind taste better. Very happy with the Varia VS4.

Make more cold brew, french press, aeropress coffee with a hand grinder. Want to grind finer and explore pour overs. Disappointed that the VS4 widest setting is still quite fine for cold brew and french press. Also, despite anti static claims I am still getting a fair amount sticking to the dispenser cup. Well made machine however - feels quality but grinds too fine for me.
