Bought these as a change from my usual Converse and Cariuma plus wanted to buy something made in Japan (where I live) to cut down on any CO2 emissions caused by transport.
Out of the box they looked very old school i.e. plimsoll like and “don’t stand out in a crowd” which is another thing I was after. But…
The fit is an issue. The canvas upper is very stiff and I ended up with skinned heels and Achilles tendons after the first time of wearing. The sole is also very unforgiving. I was a bit disappointed and thought should have stayed with Chuck Taylors. However…
I thought about this and decided to wash the sneakers to see if that would make a difference. After some soft sneaker soap, rinse, dry with newspaper rolled up inside they are better and certainly more wearable the second and third time. The sole is still quite stiff and might take even longer to break in.
In sum, look good in a retro way, need breaking in and more for the summer and dry autumn than all year round.
