Self recording, often--if not MOST-- times is a mistake. There are exceptions. (See 'Oh, Inverted World' [and countless others]). However, having engineered my entire adult life, and being a full time producer the last 7 years, we decided we were capable of programming and guitar tracking. We'll be leaving drums, and maybe vocals, to the "big boy studio" and spend our budget there. Having said that, spending $2K on the UAD Gen 2 x4 and hundreds more on plug-ins might seem-- to entry level musicians especially-- a sticker shock. Depending on the studio, though, that's AT THE BEST RATE, 9 total eight-hour sessions. And I don't even know that I'd trust most "studios" that come in at that price... But even so... We have enabled ourselves to spend countless time without watching the clock or wondering "how long this is going to take" or sacrificing what we're chasing after because of time or money. This is an INVALUABLE investment. My only qualm is that I hope UA *invests* into bringing back live customer support chat to the game.
