I watched Grafted on Shudder shortly after it came out and liked it enough to pick up this release. A lot of people compared this to the Substance since it came out around the same time. I can see the similarities but I think it has just as much in common with Body Melt, another obvious influence. Watching it a second time, it remains a unique movie despite those connections. I don’t recall seeing another horror movie that discusses Asian identity across the diaspora like this one does. It feels a bit long at only 96 minutes and could use a bit of either editing or modification in a few places. Shudder releases are a little stingy with features but this has a few of them, though they are short (the making of featurette) and very slow and not interesting (behind the scenes). The slipcover artwork is excellent and adds a different feel to the movie that none of the other promotional posters or artwork provide. I think this will be a movie that people look back upon favorable. Happy to have in my collection!

Very Interesting Flick!

This terrific flick is an excellent new release! It is filmed in the sun quite a bit and is a very interesting watch! The peerless VS restoration process was on full display with stellar sound and picture! Thank you, VS, for continuing to lovingly restore and release so many wonderful films from every conceivable genre! You are keeping physical media alive in this streaming world we now live in! Highly recommended!

This release is perfect for anyone who loved the Substance. Emotional and transformative- this film goes to wild lengths - in surprising ways to tell its story, starting with its bleak opening. Perfectly acted and cleverly constructed - the fact that the tooth carries over to each new face shows precision to detail. A must watch and a must own.
