Learn to make your drawings attractive
This book is very unique in terms that there are very few books that present these techniques in a unified way like Bruce does in this book.
Most books look at this as an oversiight or just give a finished drawing and say you can add shading and make it look realistic. The best beginner books at the most discuss shading. But, shading is just one art element in Bruce's book!
You can look at art elements like a toolkit. After you create a basic drawing, play around with the different art elements and develop a unique look.
Each art element is explained in the context of a full drawing. This makes it so much more useful as you also understand the context and use them as ideas for your drawings.
There are no exercises. I think this was done by design. Just pick up any drawing exercise from The drawing textbook, Bruce's first book and try out the different art elements. This is the best way to hone your skill at using the art elements in practice.
The drawing textbook and art elements together give a general method of "How to create beautiful and interesting drawings".
