Day touring bliss
What it is: streamlined, functional, and exactly what you want for a nice day of human powered ski touring. The details will impress you.
Found myself using the back opening more than I expected. The avie tools pocket is excellent—you can get everything in or out in a hurry with the rest of the bag stuffed full, which I wondered about. The hip pockets are ideal for snacks, and the metal hipbelt buckle will make you wonder why anyone would use a plastic one.
Did I think I wanted a grab handle on the top? No. Do I use it constantly? Yes.
What this pack is not: huge. If you overpack or tend to need a big, extra puffy in cold weather, get the 36. It’s also not what I would pick if I wanted to bring two tools—the system is ideal for one. Also, the helmet carrier works fine but perhaps a way to rig it on top of the pack would be nice.
Overall: impressed. And don’t be boring like I was(am): get the purple color.
