After trouble shooting with the support folks and deciding the controller was most likely the problem I ordered one and paid for expedited shipping. Controller showed up a day early and I replaced it in less than an hour. Including instructions for replacement would help for other DIY people.

Controller relatively easy to install. Had to drill out the screw hole a little in order to get the screw to line up with the hole. Bike is back to functioning correctly.
