A Character-First Horror Gem

Attachment is an underseen treasure, elevated by a smart script with complex characters, outstanding lead performances, strong visual storytelling, and a narrative exploring territory that's underrepresented in horror. For some fans of the genre, this film may take too much time to get to "the good stuff," but for me, investing so heavily in the characters and their complex dynamics with just hints of what's to come really pays off in the third act, when it fully leans into its more familiar genre trappings. It's all the more unsettling because we know and care for the people involved so thoroughly, and it earns its emotional catharsis. This is another great Vinegar Syndrome/Shudder release. The essay in the booklet and video essay special feature are worth checking out. Both commentaries are solo efforts, which means there's perhaps more silence than one might like, but they're both informative and entertaining, especially the writer/director's contribution. Buy a copy so you can support the filmmakers, revisit the rich characters and narrative, and share a hidden gem with friends and family.
