Fun and Functional
Really loved this kit for making a couple spare engine keys for our houseboat. The boat is in a very remote area, nowhere to get a spare key made within several hours drive and we can’t leave the boat without engine keys for days to run get the copies, so we used this kit to make spares to leave while we have real copies made. One set of putty never hardened, (did everything right, one orange, one white, mixed thoroughly etc…) it just never set up. Another set hardened so quickly we couldn’t get a copy made, but the other 3 worked perfectly. Butane lighter in the kit was cracked on arrival so it couldn’t be filled or used but we had another we used instead. We did snap one key off in the ignition the next morning but luckily it was high enough we could pull it out with some pliers and we made another. So be careful as they are flimsy, but really overall worked exactly as described, both engines fire perfectly with the keys made from this kit and the originals were taken to make more sturdy copies.

Fun James Bond type item.

Impressively Impractical
When I bought this, I knew that the short working time of the binary compound would dramatically limit this kit's usefulness. However, that isn't the only problem. The compression mechanism of the mold encourages the mold to spread downward and laterally, thus preventing the mold from closing completely. The results are castings that are thinner than the original (which can be a fatal flaw when copying keys for locks with sidebars). A more minor complaint is that the small torch often loses its flame and needs frequent restriking. I would definitely recommend buying a clam shell for use with a polymer clay, instead.
