For almost $800 USD, I expected a much better product. The R8w works, but the performance doesn’t justify the price in my opinion. Some features are useful, but the overall experience feels overpriced for what you get. It’s not terrible, but if I had to do it again, I would seriously consider other options before spending this much money.

So far so good. Long range detection, fewer X and K band alerts than the 2007 Beltronics STS I replaced. It’s what I expected.

Just switched from R7 to R8

So I had this Uniden R8 for a couple of weeks now. Prior to that I had a Uniden R7 for 4.5 years. The R7 was fantastic too but I think that it had a limited range compared to the R8, at least that is from the reviews. I haven't had a chance to test the long range on the R8 yet. I am radar detector enthusiast so sometimes I just go for a drive hunting for police/sheriff radars spots. Today I had an alert from the rear, I can't emphasis enough how important is to have coverage on the rear. I do like that the display is well lit and also like the initial Bep when it detects something, it is loud so it alerts me. I am taking the time to say thanks to Uniden for offering 10% for first responders.
