At first I hesitated to switch from a Thule bucket seat, which I had also attached to the handlebars, to the Shotgun seat with a proper bike saddle, as I thought that leaning on it would still be important for our two-year-old. However, the first test ride showed that he gets along very well with the footrests and handlebars. With the Shotgun Pro, we are now much faster on the road and as he can stand up out of the saddle on very bumpy stretches, it is also much more comfortable. All in all, we probably could have switched after 18-22 months, but even now riding together is great fun!
