A masterpiece
This film is undoubtedly a masterpiece by Stuart Gordon, who also gave us the incredible *Re-Animator*—which likewise starred Jeffrey Combs and Barbara Crampton (the latter also appearing in *Hell Comes to Frogtown*). Based on a story by H. P. Lovecraft, the film explores the consequences of an extraordinary experiment that created a bridge between two parallel realities. It is the perfect premise for introducing a host of bizarre creatures brought to life through absolutely magnificent practical effects. As always, Vinegar Syndrome delivers a high-quality release of this essential classic. I highly recommend adding it to your collection if you are a fan of wild, off-the-wall horror.

Stuart Gordon's second best movie
Almost as good as Re-Animator (but much closer to the themes H. P. Lovecraft was known for exploring in his writings), this is Barbara Crampton's movie, and she's absolutely fantastic in it. This is one of the best horror movies of the 80s and it never looked better than it does here. There's a new feature length documentary included on the first blu-ray and an entire blu-ray dedicated to archival extras. Essential purchase, really.
