Stars, cut into the surface rather than sitting on it. Small bursts are engraved at intervals around a slim band, shallow enough that the ring stays completely flat to the touch. Nothing catches, nothing protrudes, and the pattern only really appears when light hits it at the right angle. Engraved detail wears differently to applied detail.
