Deadpan Detective Comedy Gem

Inspector Ike is a charmingly deadpan comedy oddity, and the lost-70s-TV-movie angle is more than just a gimmick. The Columbo-meets-The Naked Gun setup gives it a great rhythm: a theater-world murder, a smug understudy, visual gags, awkward pauses, gross food, and a detective who treats every absurd detail with total seriousness. Ikechukwu Ufomadu is the perfect center for it, and the supporting cast gives the whole thing that scrappy New York comedy energy without making it feel overworked. The extras are also unusually fun, especially the Graham Mason commentary, the Words With Ike episodes, booklet, recipe card, short film, and reversible artwork. A smart, weird, very likable release that feels handmade in the best way.
