Best first aid kits ever!
Several years ago I purchased the Construction Pro kit from My Medic to carry in my truck. Due to the nature of my job and where I go I felt this was the best kit for my purposes. Recently at a company safety meeting another driver mentioned not having a first aid kit in the truck and thought the company should provide them. I laughed because I had a fantastic kit in my truck. When I brought up the My Medic website to show him the kit I had, I was surprised to see the Construction Pro was no longer available. After perusing the available options I decided the Scout would be a likely replacement option. The kits are well made and well stocked. I like how the different mods are individually labeled and colored making it easier to find what you need right away. Don't get me wrong, I think the kits are great, but they are not perfect. A lot of that depends on your particular needs. There are some things that I felt the kit(s) needed so I customized it for my personal needs. In my job getting some chemicals in your eyes is a very real possibility even when taking the proper precautions. There really wasn't anything in the kit for rinsing eyes so I went to Walgreens and bought eyewash cups and large bottles of saline solution to put in the kit. A couple of other things I added were a couple of tourniquits, even though there was one in the kit. I just wanted more. I also added a couple more chest shield. The bandages from My Medic are the absolute best. Most brands will fall off when they get wet, or the edges start rolling up so you have to replace it. I have never had one of My Medic bandages fall off when they got wet. The edges haven't rolled up. They have always lasted all day for me. And because of how much I like them I decided to purchase more in various sizes and add them to the kit. Another thing I felt was necessary but not in the kit was some sort of allergy medication. Because of a severe food allergy I'm supposed to have an epi-pen with me all the time. Unfortunately they're too expensive and have to be replaced too often, even when not used. It's easier to just avoid the food I'm allergic to. But there are times when I eat something that I can tell it had that ingredient in it because of the way it affects me. So for my own protection, and that of others that might have an allergic reaction to something, I purchased a box of individual packets of benedryll and put several packets in each of my kits. I have several first aid kits from My Medic. You might say I'm addicted to them because I have so many. But I don't think you can have too many first aid kits. I have kits in each vehicle I drive and several at home. Being a volunteer firefighter, I never know what I might come across or what I might have to do before regular paramedics arrive, so I like to be prepared the best I can. One of the best features about their kits, like I've mentioned, is that while they come well stocked they also allow you to customize the kit to your individual needs. And I would like to mention that if you happen to have an older version of one of their kits you might want to check on an updated version. One kit I keep in my personal vehicle is no longer available so I have been exploring replacement options. While there is nothing wrong with the kit itself I have found a small problem with some of the materials in the older kits. If you're like me and keep a kit in your vehicles you might want to change how you store it. I've noticed that on my older kit the material that was used for the closure straps and quick release buckles got brittle and broke. I've noticed that they changed the material they use for this now. I store my kit in my pickup so that I have quick and easy access to it when needed. Was the deterioration of the straps due to being stored in my vehicle or the materials they were made of? I don't know. It might have been both. Another huge advantage of purchasing from My Medic is it's a certified HSA/FSA store so you can use your HSA/FSA funds to purchase products. Just an all-around great company to do business with. And depending on the kit you purchase you can also receive a free online training course for first aid training. I highly recommend the training videos. A lot has changed from when I first started learning about first aid and the way things are done now. I just can't say enough good things about this company and their products.
