Necessary
If you live in the north east this is not an option. The weather station arrives needing a battery charge and no way to charge it. Additionally
the is insufficient sunlight to charge it. I will be mounting the battery pack in a weather tight electrical box. The station finally works as it should.

Great for cloudy locations
Michigan has very dark and cloudy winters. This accessory guarantees there are no power issues. I have this accessory inside a storage container and used dielectric grease on the connections, so no issues with weather. I can see the Tempest battery voltage increase in the middle of the night, so I know this accessory is working. I'm using lithium batteries for long life and reliability at temperature extremes.

A Necessity in my Shady PNW Location
I'm glad this is available as I just don't bet enough direct sun to charge the battery, at least during the winter. Two improvements I would recommend are 1) a much shorter cable to connect to the station (must be 12-15' and I needed about 3'); 2) a more waterproof case for the batteries. Mine is out in the weather so we'll see how long it lasts.
