VCS Gift Gard Saves Christmas Morning

If your husband is anything like mine he is time blind when it comes to the holidays, birthdays & anniversaries. I have gotten used to this over the years and traditionally plan ahead with purchasing a joint gift either to or from the pair of us… it’s not as if he does not care, he just works so hard at a physically demanding job that gifts are not on his mind. Last year was probably the most difficult December I have ever endured. I lost my father to an illness more suddenly than expected. I am an only child and my father was my absolute best friend… to top things off he passed away in early December, his birthday is in December and he embodied Father Christmas like no other. If you have never seen a military veteran brought to tears at the thought of making toys for children on Christmas (which he did for years,) I can promise it is quite the sight to behold. That year I was in complete survival mode with the loss of my father and thankfully all the gifts for our children, my husband and others acquired and wrapped by November 30th, but I had not planned for myself at all. My children were almost two and 8 years old at the time and while they could understand their dad forgetting to get their mother a gift, Santa Clause forgetting could have been a very big deal - especially with how much their grandfather adored Christmas and Santa Clause. I said nothing to my husband and mentally prepared myself for answering questions if they noticed the next morning. To my surprise, my husband somehow figured things out on his own and found his way to the VCS Website via a link I had sent him several months back for silhouette portraits we had gifted to our children’s grandparents and snagged a gift card for me from Santa Clause. You wouldn’t think a gift card could save Christmas Morning, but it allowed my husband the opportunity to gift something extremely thoughtful and preserve the innocence of our children a bit longer after they had just been put through an extremely emotional time.
