This first filter turns red with rust every time the old pipes break in my neighborhood so I change it much oftener than recommended. It's a cheap way to keep the other filters from needing to be changed. . I love my Air/water/ice system from the first cup of tea in the morning to a hot toddy at night we use it all day long.
