I have not installed it yet, but it appears to be sturdy enough to get the job done. The mantle I will be installing is in its raw condition. A 4” thick x 60” long x 12” deep slice of solid Walnut with its natural bark on the longitudinal face of the shelf. The Ultra Shelf Mantel bracket will be secured to the structural beams behind the brick of the fireplace.
