Come, ye children, hearken unto me. Biblical teaching about dating
This is a beautiful book and I have read it with great interest. It is a subject in which it is of great importance to draw biblical lines. The beauty of this book is that it is not written in a pedantic way: thou shalt not do this and thou shalt not do that. On the contrary, it is intended as a guide for the conversation of the parents with their children. It reminds me of what we read in Psalm 34:12: ‘Come, ye children, hearken unto me: I will teach you the fear of the LORD’. Our fathers from Dordt have written in the Dutch annotations: ‘You who hold me to be your spiritual father, that is, prophet and teacher.’ What a privilege if we as parents can speak to our children like this and our example attracts them! If ever there was a time to speak to our children about this topic as early as possible, it is our time. Our children should not be raised up by social media with their wickedness and immorality. Dina, Jacob's daughter, only went out once and the consequences for her and the whole family turned out to be terrible! Some things are less applicable for the Netherlands and not everyone will be able to agree with the idea (it seems) that every child is a true covenant child. That does not alter the fact that I would like to recommend this book wholeheartedly.
