Eric Dolphy's brilliant live set, recorded only weeks before his tragic death, is finally available in true mono and full fidelity. The concert was performed in the Hilversum, Netherlands broadcast and recording facility in the presence of a small, invited audience. It was first issued in 1964, in mono and stereo versions by Fontana in Europe and Limelight in the US. 1970s- era LP reissues were in rechanneled stereo with dismal audio quality. HDTT's mono source brings out the best qualities of Dolphy's alto sax, bass clarinet and flute; Misha Mengelberg's piano, Jacques Scholz's upright bass and Han Bennik's percussion kit. The Hilversum recording engineer expertly captured the spaciousness of the broadcast hall. This release is highly recommended for superb sound quality and historically important performances.
