New Life into an Older Machine
I recently got an E3 error message on my older model Gene Cafe roaster. A quick internet search diagnosed the problem. Gene Cafe had the part in stock and shipped it quickly. Their online DIY video showed me exactly how to replace the part. I'm back in the home roasting business! Yes, I'm spoiled with "my" coffee.

Does not work with the older unit - wrong form factor
Attempted to install in the older Gene Cafe (circa 2012). Screw holes aligned and it plugged into the board ok, but the hall sensor is too thick on this new one and it was hitting a nib on the rotation wheel on every revolution. Also would not work as the drum just kept spinning. Re-installed the old reed sensor and it worked fine. So although I had been getting an E3 error before, the original problem must have been related to something else. However, if this part ever does fail it would be good to sell the old one which is has a much thinner profile. Would appreciate it if older parts were clearly delineated from the new model, just like how the heating unit is.

Reed sensor not the problem. Found drive motor getting less than 12 volts We will see if a new power board will turn the motor again..
