The product is a superior mineral oil. That being said the company is gouging on the price. You can buy virtually the same mineral oil at a hardware store for about $6 a bottle. The Grothouse original oil is thinned down and soaks in much better than the cheaper generic variety. This is why I purchased this product. For the first six momths you should oil up to once a week and the heavier oils wont allow you to do this without building up.
We recently purchased a 2’ by 4’ end grain block from Grothouse and it is one of the finest butcher blocks I have ever seen. To preface this I am a life time carpenter.
Bottom line great product that is overpriced. And i will stop using after this bottle is used up.
