Keeping soil moist was challenging

I purchased these cell packs along with the corresponding trays and a number of different types of Pinetree Garden seeds for seed starting this year. In the past I’ve always used peat pots and kept the soil moist with bottom watering. I did not find that these plastic cells were as amendable to bottom watering and instead had to resort to watering from the top. A majority of my seeds did not germinate this year, and even those that did germinate did not fair well. I suspect my watering was the issue, because I’ve always had luck with peat pots and bottom watering, and these new cell packs/trays were the only thing I changed to my seed starting setup this year. Are there recommendations for the best watering methods to follow when starting seeds in these plastic cell packs and corresponding trays?

Good enough cells but not really very deep

These are not cheap, crummy cells but they were pretty shallow. I was hoping for deeper cells that allow for more roots to develop!!
