An ideal compromise of accuracy and flyability.
This model can't be perfectly accurate, because, frankly, Goddard's first liquid propelled rocket was pretty terrible, and far from an ideal shape for a flying model. But within the limitations of the design, Estes has produced a remarkably convincing model. I don't give this model the fifth star, however, because there are no painting instructions, implying that the model should be left a medium grey color. The real rocket included light grey asbestos covering the propellant lines and the deflector cone near the base, and a whole variety of steel and aluminum metallic shades visible in historic photographs. With the right paint job, this is an impressive model. One last note: The engine for its first flight catoed, ruining the model. On the plus side, Estes's customer service people got a replacement out to me, along with a replacement pack of engines. In fact, this review is in response to that rplacement shipment. Estes Customer Service definitely gets five stars!

Nice kit but BT-5 is too thin walled to support fin can
A friend showed me his Nell after one flight and the BT-5 crumpled on landing. I stiffened my model's tube before assembly so I don't anticipate the same problem. This is a nice kit. A quick build and simple construction. The attention to detail by wrapping the provided tape around the carbon fiber tubes to simulate the asbestos wrapping of the original (real) rocket is impressive.

Robert Goddard Liquid Propellant Rocket
It is an honor to display this historic rocket that essentially pioneered the way for Manned Spaceflight beginning in New England ! This is truly a Great American Story that needs to be shared with today's youth. An All American Adventure through time and space !!
