The "X" model TRMNL device is a black and white, 16 grayscale (4-bit depth) fully customizable ePaper display. It is ideal for larger spaces such as a kitchen or living room, given the display size is conducive to easy viewing from further distances.
Unlike the OG model - which is best for office desks and bedroom night stands - the X mod

Minimum friction to put into production
Excellent, no friction in using or developing and deploying solutions. The only thing I would ask is to be able to deactivate completely the touch bar - perhaps for wifi a precise sequence of taps - otherwise it is very difficult to incorporate in a picture frame.

Very nice, fun and useful gadget
The e-ink gives a very good resolution and everything looks good. I use it to show the family calendar along with fun photos from a shared iCloud-folder. Made some own plugins also, and It's very easy to do with a little help from any digital friend.
It's a fun gadget, but most importantly it is really useful. The battery life is also very impressive. It has dropped down to 90% after a week of testing and toying around.

Surprisingly good grayscale quality and insane battery life. Does what it says on the tin.
I've charged it twice in several months and I don't think it was even low. I haven't gotten into the TERMINUS/self-hosted side, so I can't speak to that aspect yet, but even with just a few basic widgets it makes for a fun and helpful little display.
